Your privacy is important to us and CVAS uses industry standard safeguards to protect your personal information. We will share your information only (1) with your consent; (2) where it is necessary to carry out your instructions; (3) as reasonably necessary in order to provide the Services; (4) when we reasonably believe it is required by law, subpoena or other legal process; or (5) as necessary to enforce the terms and conditions of the Services.
Information We Collect and How We Use It
Location Data. The Services may be able to provide location information using Global Positioning System (GPS) data or other location database services which the Services may be able to access from your device at any given location and point in time (“Location Data”). This Location Data may be provided to emergency service agencies or to third party service providers as provided in the terms and conditions of the applicable Services. You are able to turn the location information feature on or off in the settings window of certain Services.
Data Collected for Billing and Analysis. CVAS may collect data on the performance and/or usage of the Services for billing purposes, for analysis to improve the operation of the Services or to develop new Services, or for marketing purposes. Performance and usage data used for billing purposes may be linked to Personal Information, and when so linked will only be disclosed to the person who is the account holder for such Personal Information, his/her authorized representative, or as required by law. Performance and usage data used for analytical or marketing purposes will not be linked to Personal Information and will only be used on an anonymized, aggregate basis with other performance and usage data such that no individual usage or performance data is revealed. Use of the Services means that you consent to the collection and use of such performance and usage data.
Device Data. The Services may require information from your device. This data may include information about your device, the device operating system, the device Internet Protocol address, location information, or other information available from software or hardware on your device. You can find more information on which features of the Services send information to CVAS and what information they send when you turn on or use these features. By using a feature of the Services that sends information to CVAS you are consenting to our use of that device data to provide the Services.
Your Choices and Obligations
Review and Update Personal Information. Where applicable, you may review your Personal Information in the account or profile settings of the Service. You have the right to review and correct your Personal Information that is stored or controlled by CVAS at any time. If you wish to delete your Personal Information you must close your account.
Deleting Personal Information. If you close your account, you may request to have your Personal Information deleted by CVAS and we will do so within a reasonable period of time. Notwithstanding any such request, CVAS will store and maintain any Personal Information it is required to keep by law for whatever purpose and time period the law requires and may also store such information in back-up storage systems.
Deleting Information You Upload or Store. As described in the section “Address Book and Other Information You Choose to Upload”, you may delete your address book and any other information you have synced or stored using the Service at any time you are connected to the applicable Service using the settings for that Service. Notwithstanding any such deletion of information by you using the settings, a copy of such information may remain in back-up storage systems used by CVAS for a period of time after the deletion, either until your account is closed or the back-up storage system deletes or overwrites the information as part CVAS’s data storage policies, whichever is later. By choosing to use the Services and upload information, you acknowledge that such information may remain on back-up storage systems after you delete the information, and you consent to such back-up storage.
Information Generated by the Services. As described in the section “Data Collected for Billing and Analysis”, CVAS may collect and link performance and usage data with Personal Information for the purposes of billing for Services or as required by law. CVAS may also collect and aggregate performance and usage data for analysis, product development, and sales and marketing purposes. Performance and usage data linked to Personal Information will be deleted when your account is closed, except to the extent that CVAS is required by law to keep such data or such data is archived in back-up storage systems. All performance and usage data that is aggregated or not linked to Personal Information remains the property of CVAS, and by using the Services you acknowledge and consent to ownership of such information by CVAS.
Personal Information Must Be Accurate and Complete. You are responsible for ensuring that the Personal Information you provide us is current, accurate, and complete. Some of the Services may require that you provide information about your physical capabilities or location and/or require you to affirm that certain information is correct. Failure to provide current, accurate, and complete Personal Information may require us to close your account and terminate the provision of Services to you. You agree that any Personal Information you provide is complete and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
Security. We take privacy and security seriously and have enabled HTTPS access to our website and Services in addition to existing SSL access over mobile devices. Also, please know that the Internet is not a secure environment, so be careful and select strong passwords. We have implemented security safeguards designed to protect the Personal Information that you provide in accordance with industry standards. Access to your data on the certain Services is password-protected, and sensitive data (such as credit card information) is protected by SSL encryption when it is exchanged between your web browser and CVAS servers. We also offer secure https access to our website. To protect the data stored on our servers, we also regularly monitor our systems for possible vulnerabilities and attacks. However, since the Internet is not a 100% secure environment, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information that you transmit to CVAS or any of the Services. There is no guarantee that information submitted to and/or stored by CVAS may not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards. It is your responsibility to protect the security of your login information. Please help keep your account safe by using a strong password.
Children. Protecting the privacy of children is especially important to us. Our Services are designed for all Sign Language users, however individuals under the age of 18 may only open a personal account with the involvement of a parent or guardian. Individuals under 18 may however use Public Access services, for example emergency services. CVAS does not knowingly collect information from individuals under the age of 18, nor does CVAS share such information with any third party. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Information from an individual under the age of 18, CVAS will take appropriate steps to remove that information. CVAS additionally follows Interpreting Safeguarding procedures, and will report any concern to the appropriate governing bodies.
